Anyone served in the military answer this for proof

Serious question to prove to my nephew that this happened?
He don’t like using the internet he says it’s mostly fake (I give him that) since I told him the original black Panthers was the 761st tank batallion in WW2 this is for his history class

What war was the first grenades used ever? I told him the civil war

Also what is another name for the M777?
I told him howitzer

I have not served but I can tell you that you are probably right about the grenade one since they just used cans with a little gun powder instead of what we know today.

I didn’t say the had to be functional so you would be correct

Given that gunpowder has been around for the best part of 1200 years, I suspect grenades, albeit not in their current form, were used long before the (US?) civil war.

It is not out the question

You are correct, an M777 is a towable howitzer/ artillery that fires .155 rounds. To paint a better picture. Each round weighs nearly 100 lbs, depending on the variant, and it takes roughly 9 of them to level a square city block

Ceramic grenades were used by the Byzantines in their wars against the Muslims

Here’s a couple of nice links for “pomegranates”. Wikipedia has a real nice page in particular:

Both cite 8th century Greek Fire as the first type of grenades - basically Molotov cocktails.

I should’ve been more specific when the subject of history was american history
